The Little Things

As I look back on the last few days, I’ve come to realize that Tallahassee from “Zombieland” and Troy from “Reality Bites” really do have something in their take pleasure in the little things theories. Of course, this could just be a reaction to my newfound go with the flow and let life happen approach but I like to draw the comparisons.

It started Friday as I was driving home. There’s nothing like having a moonroof open to sunshine on your way home from work to start things off right. Add a few good tunes and no traffic and you’re on your way to a great day. I knew that at some point that day my Godson J would be born (the wonders of inducing labor). I mean, does it get much better than that?

To celebrate, I was having some wine with a great friend and just reconnecting. I think people tend to forget that friendships like all relationships need work and sometimes you just need to take a few minutes and make sure you know what’s up. Thanks to some Tickled Pink beverage, we had a lovely night with appetizers and talking. No big plan, no pressure, just a couch, a friend, some TV and that’s all you need.

Saturday was beautiful around here and not cold. Who knew you could walk outside without a coat? It was a great day to do the driving out and about on the agenda. Plus, there was a trip to a brewery for a block party with BBQ. I mean, really do I have a great life or what:) The brewery (and company) did not disappoint (nor did the hysterical laughter later in the evening over using a cat to clean the floor but that doesn’t translate well to a blog story).

Sunday meant attempting to do laundry (darn you apartment 103 and your hogging of the machines!) and meeting L for coffee (actually neither of us had coffee, she had tea and I had hot chocolate). We got to play hide and seek with this kid who kept wandering outside which was odd, but at least we kept him out of traffic. Good times though.

The thing is, taken individually and to many, these events independently or together don’t amount to much to appreciate, but I sure as hell do. I have great people in my life and while perhaps my activities don’t make the TMZ list for others, I greatly enjoyed my weekend and would do all these things again in a heartbeat, even without the sunshine making a difference.

The little things are those that I take pleasure in.
